[developers] terminal io stream

I would like to add some code to the LKB GUI to cause some text to be 
output to the initial terminal-io stream (eg. displayed in the Lisp 
buffer). Can anyone tell me the name of the stream to use?  I thought 
*lkb-background-stream* would be what I need, but the active window 
hijacks this stream.
