I did a bit more testing, in particular starting Allegro CL from Emacs. 
Occasionally I get  the following  error message, when selecting 
something in the GUI. If I call the  underlying  function from Emacs 
(lkb::read-script-file-aux or lkb::index-for-generator), the error does 
not show up.

Firing up ACL 8.0 from a terminal does not produce the error.
