[developers] broken LKB checked in to CVS

Yes, I intended to raise this issue again. I suggest the patch be
commented out until someone has an error-free patch to check in (and I
suggest we should check that the system compiles /before/ checking in
any future "patches"). I didn't commit my patch as it doesn't result in
a smooth compile (it spits out some warning messages, and the hoped for
functionality doesn't appear!).
