just to confirm: using these conventions in tsdb(1) profiles, unrestricted character sequences can be recorded in string-valued tsdb(1) fields.  tsdb(1) itself requires no notion of encodings (i.e. it behaves much like cat(1) in this respect), but [incr tsdb()] does, defaulting to UTF-8 (which i wholeheartedly recommend to anyone).
