thanks for the testing.  i take it the stream-related problems are no
longer there.  that would be good progress, and if true, i should aim
to include the current patch in production builds from now on.

i imagine this could be the same problem that francis (and i) reported
earlier.  even though non-ASCII characters now work in the text input
widget, there are remaining display issues in other widgets.  andreas
has confirmed that he can re-produce these issues, so hopefully there
is a resolution down the road :-).

actually, is this a new problem (created by the patch)?  i think i have
seen PS output from (LKB) CLIM windows with umlauts in the past?
