I've checked some fixes in to the LKB CVS which enable all main
components of the LKB under Steel Bank Common Lisp (with the exception
of CLIM, which perhaps won't be missed -- use the LUI instead).
A relatively recent build of SBCL is required (at least version 1.0).
Thread support must have been compiled in (:sb-thread). Running 'apt-get
install sbcl' on Ubuntu 7.04 will get you what you need without having
to compile SBCL yourself.
Benefits of SBCL include:
- it's a free Lisp (no need for *everyone* who wants to run the source
code to obtain an expensive license for Allegro Common Lisp)
- considerably faster
- considerably less memory usage
