[developers] using PET in 64-bit mode

hi bernd, yi, and peter,

it seems that PET now compiles without warnings in 64-bit environments.
i used to think the code was not 64-bit clean because of the occasional
cast between pointers and ints.  have these been rectified?  are people
using 64-bit PET binaries already?  anything else to watch out for?
