this message is mis-leading: what it means is that you are trying to
run a 32-bit binary in a 64-bit environment, and some of the necessary
run-time libraries are not available (in 32-bit) format.  i am not an
ubuntu user myself, but i would hope that the instructions below might
be helpful:
