Yes. I do get these messages on fedora fc8 as well. Only, LOGON does not
crash.

Here are the fonts and packages affected:

luxi 
xorg-x11-fonts-truetype
xorg-x11-fonts-type1


After removal, some ethiopic, korean and japanese fonts start acting
up. 

xorg-x11-fonts-ethiopic

sazanami-fonts-* (which then uninstalls meta package fonts-japanese, but
leaves other japanese fonts installed)

baekmuk-ttf-fonts-* (which then uninstalls meta package fonts-korean

cjkunifonts-* (which uninstalls fonts-chinese meta package)


So in order to make that message go, I had to uninstall pretty much all
of Fedora's East Asian font support.

PS: 

On Ubuntu 8.10, freeserif is affected, but, unfortunately gnome-desktop
depends on that, and so on .... Fortunately, this error is not fatal.
