Hello,
Concerning a manual building of the lexicon, I'm sure there are more experienced grammar writers in the list that could provide a more accurate answer than me.
However, almost one month ago I built semi-automatically a lexicon in LexDB format of almost 40.000 entries for the Modern Greek resource grammar (http://www.delph-in.net/mgrg/)* within some minutes using a list of words separated into sublists according to their morphological attributes. The lexicon will have to be post-edited parallel to the grammar development of course.
The procedure will be described in my MSC thesis, which I can send you as soon as it has been submitted, revised and evaluated.
So in that case, I would say that the time depends on the lexical resources available and the form of your grammar.
Sincerely
Alexandros

Betreff: [matrix] Lexicon building
Dear list members,
I have been contacted by Gertrud Faasz, a PhD student in Pretoria, South
Africa, which is about to build a grammar for Northern Sotho. She
wonders how much time it takes to build a lexicon with 30000 entries:
"And maybe you have information about the workload, I mean the
person-time estimation for setting up a lexicon of, let's say, about
30,000 entries? This work will be done by students being trained on the
job and I must find some soon."
Can any of you help me to give an estimate?
Best regards,
Petter
